Southern New Hampshire Tops No. 10 Molloy in Opener

ROCKVILLE CENTER, N.Y. Greg Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.) totaled four goals and two assists in his college debut to lead the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen to a 13-10 victory over the No. 10 Molloy College Golden Lions. The game marked the season openers for both teams.

The Penmen got on the board early in the first quarter off of back-to-back goals by Reynolds, and SNHU held a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Molloy would score two goals of their own in the first minutes of the second quarter, giving them the 4-3 advantage and their only lead of the game. Reynolds would even the game for the Penmen at 4-4 and both teams would go scoreless for just over five and a half minutes until Terrence Nash (Oceanside, N.Y.) would reclaim the Penmen lead.

Nash finished the day with two goals. Andrew Brown (Marshfield, Mass.) added a goal and an assist, and Brian Nagle (Woburn, Mass.), Michael Slatton (Billerica, Mass.), and Peter Vacca (Billerica, Mass.) each added a goal. Keith Merluzzo (Billerica, Mass.) chipped in offensively with two assists. Gary McKay (Billerica, Mass.) won five face-offs for the Penmen and also notched two goals.

Matt Dolan led the Golden Lions with three goals. Pat Fanning added two, while Steven Genovese, Ryan Kudlek, Kenny Lutz, Albert Maione and Tommy Susko all chipped in with a goal apiece.

Eric Gunst (Exeter, N.H.) went the distance between the pipes for SNHU, recording 17 saves. Tommy Bruno played 51:11 and recorded 12 saves before giving way to Glenn Greubal, who allowed three goals and did not make a save. The Golden Lions outshot the Penmen 37-29. SNHU finished 3-6 on extra-man opportunities, while the Molloy finished 4-10.

Southern New Hampshire opens Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, March 13, when they host cross-town rival Saint Anselm College for a 1:00 p.m. matchup at Larkin Field.
