Catawba Upended by No. 8 Mars Hill

MARS HILL, NC -- Catawba fell 15-7 to eighth-ranked Mars Hill in Deep South Conference lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the DSC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 1-3 and 0-2.

The Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of play only to see the Lions score six unanswered goals en route to the victory. Mars Hill led 6-3 after the first quarter and neither team could find the net until the final minute of the second quarter with each team tallied once giving the Lions a 7-4 lead.

Mars Hill took control of the game in the third quarter out-scoring Catawba 5-1 to take a 12-4 advantage heading into the final period. MHC built the lead to 15-5 before a pair of late Catawba goals.

Catawba held a 37-30 edge in shots, while the Lions had a 38-34 advantage in ground balls. Mars Hill held Catawba to 0-8 on extra man opportunities.

Danny Farmer (Calgary, Alberta) led MHC with four goals and three assists. Tyler Farmer (Calgary, Alberta) followed with four goals and added an assist, while Eric Benesch (Bloomingdale, Ontario) tallied three goals, six ground balls and two assists. Dylan Price (York, PA) played 57:56 in goal for the Lions and made 20 saves.

Tom Cullop (New Windsor, MD/S. Carroll HS) led the Catawba Indians with three goals, three ground balls and one assist. Marty Touhy (Wesmouth, MA/Weymouth HS) recorded two goals and the same number of assists. Michael Pecchia (Coquitlum, BC, CANADA/Heritage Woods) played the entire game in the net for Catawba and made 14 saves.
