Pfeiffer Comes Up Just Short Against #6 West Chester

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - West Chester's Jackie Hoover and Pfeiffer's Heidi Karaszkiewicz each scored four goals, but it was Hoover's sixth-ranked Golden Rams that pulled out a 14-12 victory over the Lady Falcons in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. West Chester wins their 2010 season opener, while Pfeiffer falls to 3-1.

Both teams went back and forth scoring goals in the first 11 minutes as Jessica Kennedy scored twice for the Lady Falcons early on in a 3-3 game. Kennedy and Karaszkiewicz then scored at 18:41 and 14:22 to put the hosts up 5-3. Nicole Haines brought the Golden Rams to within one at 5-4 with a strike at 12:38 before Karaszkiewicz scored the next two goals putting Pfeiffer back up three. Hoover and Erin Oczkowski each tallied in the final 30 seconds to gain a little momentum, trailing the Lady Falcons 8-6 at the intermission.

Allie Gamble extended Pfeiffer's lead to three again with a goal just 69 seconds into the second half. After Jackie Patterson hit for the Golden Rams, Gamble again found the back of the net that gave the Lady Falcons a 10-7 advantage with 24:15 to play. Sarah Hebberd would eventually score the final two Pfeiffer goals, but West Chester still had six left in the tank to pull out the win. Claire Grimwood had the game-tying and go-ahead goals registered in a 38 second span playing with the extra man.

Pfeiffer will return to action at home on Monday afternoon hosting Regis out of Colorado at 12:00 p.m.
