Shepherd University Falls to Wilmington

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. Danielle Niccoli scored five goals and Jessica Graybeal netted four to lead Wilmington (DE) University to a 17-6 win over Shepherd University in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Wilmington (2-0) also got two goals apiece from Mary Sing, Samantha Jewell, and Elizabeth Case.

Shepherd (0-3) was led by freshman Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) with three goals. Sophomore Carly Jones (Hagerstown, MD/Smithsburg) added a goal and an assist, while freshman Brooke Jones (Odenton, MD/Arundel) also tallied a goal.

Freshman netminder Emily Rachel (Damascus, MD/Damascus) recorded eight saves for the Rams, while Amber Smith had 13 for the Wildcats.

Wilmington had a 39-24 edge in shots, while Shepherd had a 30-25 advantage in ground balls. The Wildcats were successful on 21 of 24 clears, while Shepherd was 11 of 13.

The Rams return to action next Wednesday when they host Anne Arundel Community College for a 3:30 p.m. scrimmage at Ram Stadium.
