Pagliarulo and Tars Make Easy Work of Marauders

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 8, 2010) Freshman Erica Pagliarulo found the back of the cage on five goals, and assisted on two, as the Tars made easy work of Millersville University 21-6 on Monday evening at Showalter Field.

Rollins (3-1) saw scoring efforts from eight different Tars en route to the romp over their second in-region opponent of the season. The Marauders drop their first contest of the season, falling to 1-1.

Pagliarulo notched a career high in goals, and tallied her first assists of the season to lead the team, but Rollins saw a strong showing from every player as the entire roster stepped onto the field throughout the contest. Freshman Sarah Ann Showell fired four goals between the pipes, while Mallory Surpless and Marissa Giannerini each netted a hat trick.

The Tars dominated the contest in all areas of the field, silencing Millersville in draw controls 20-9, and finding success on 100% of their free-position shots as they went 7 for 7. Rollins held their opponent to just 15 shots on goal all contest, with nine saves from goalie Alyssa Emens, while her counterparts collected a total of seven.

The Tars exploded onto the field and sprinted out to a three goal lead with 28:22 on the clock in the first half. Millersville put themselves up on the scoreboard with a goal from Ashley Henderson at 27:36, but Rollins extended their lead even further throughout the remainder of the period, scoring 13 unanswered goals to enter into the half with a score of 16-1.

Both teams traded blows throughout the remainder of the contest, but the 15 goal deficit was too daunting for the Marauders as they were unable to whittle away at the Tars' substantial lead.

The Tars return to action on March 10, when they host No. 10 Stonehill College. Rollins has been receiving votes in this season's IWLCA polls, and looks to try to break into the top ten with a victory over the Skyhawks, who take to the field for the first time this season on Wednesday. Game time for the showdown at Showalter Field is set for 7:00 p.m. Fans will be able to catch all of the action live on the Tars Sports Network at
