Wesley Wins Third Straight Game, Routing Sage

DOVER, Del. - Wesley College overcame an early 2-0 deficit and scored the game's final 13 goals for an 18-4 victory over visiting Sage.

The Gators (0-1) jumped ahead 2-0 in the first 7:45 of play behind goals from Gabrielle Piccione and Jessica Hankle. Katelyn Randes (Odenton, Md./Arundel) got Wesley (3-1) on the board with 20:27 left in the half, but Sage extended the lead back to two with a free position goal by Christina Gray five minutes later.

The Wolverines quickly tied the game with goals by Randes and Jen Jacobs (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen). Two more goals, by Alyssa Prudente (Hereford, Md./Hereford) and Chelsea Buttacavoli (Brick, N.J./Marlboro) gave Wesley a 5-3 lead with 11:25 left in the half.

Erica Fitzgerald answered back for the Gators, cutting the lead to 5-4, but Wesley scored nine times in the final 9:17 of the half to break the game open and take a 14-4 lead into the intermission.

Meggan Apgar (Smyrna, Del./St. Thomas More) finished with a career-high five goals to lead the Wolverines. Mia Brocco (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Buttacavoli each notched three goals and an assist. Brocco also had seven draw controls and caused three turnovers. Randes and Stephanie Bailey (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) had multi-goal efforts for Wesley, as well.

Alyssa Batty (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) and Amanda Hudson (Frederica, Del./St. Thomas More) split time in goal for the Wolverines. Batty made a pair of saves in the first half, while Hudson stopped four in the final 30 minutes.

Fitzgerald led Sage with a goal and an assist. Courtney Reed played the entire game in goal and made 10 saves.

Wesley's 3-1 start is its best since the 2007 squad won its first three games and was 3-1 through four contests.

The Wolverines are back in action on Saturday, March 13 when Frostburg State visits Scott D. Miller Stadium.
