Molloy Downs Dominican University for First Win of 2010

Rockville Centre, NY - Jim Little and Reed Upson each found the back of the net three times on Tuesday but it wasn't enough as the Dominican University of California men's lacrosse team fell 17-8 to Molloy College.

Molloy (1-1) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Cam Evangelho scored the first of his two goals halfway through the quarter. The Lions tacked on a pair of goals to finish the quarter leading 4-1 and added two more goals to open the quarter. Little and Upson scored back-to-back Dominican (1-4) goals that cut the lead to 6-3 but Molloy again answered with a pair of goals. Little added a goal to cut the halftime lead to 8-4.

Molloy opened the third quarter with another pair of goals but Dominican evened those out with scores from Evangelho and Upson to keep Dominican within four. The Penguins were for six penalties in the game and Molloy capitalized on extra man chances, scoring on three late in the game during a seven-goal run. Zach Rodriguez found Little with three minutes left and Evangelho connected with Upson in the final minute but it wasn't enough as time ran out on the Penguins.

Dominican was outshot 48-35 but put 20 shots on goal, while Molloy placed 26 on goal. Sam Darrow made nine saves. Matt Polizzi and Corey Whelan each led Dominican with six groundballs and Tai Sing Hee scooped up five groundballs.

Malloy was led by Albert Maione's four goals. Matt Dolan and Ryan Kudlek each scored twice.

Dominican continues its trek through the East Coast with a stop at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY on Thursday, March 11. Faceoff is set for 4:00 p.m. Eastern/1:00 p.m. Pacific.
