Wesley Scores First Two, Last Two but Falls to Ursinus

DOVER, Del. - Wesley scored the game's first two and last two goals, but Ursinus outscored the Wolverines 9-2 in the middle of the game to escape Scott D. Miller Stadium with a 9-6 win.

Wesley (0-4) took advantage of two early penalties by the Bears (3-0) to jump ahead 2-0 in the game's opening 4:39. Dan Skeels (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) scored the first of his two goals with 12:03 left in the first, then Justin D'Alonzo (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) took a feed from Brad Smith (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) three and a half minutes later. Ursinus cut the lead in half with 9:07 left in the first on the first of Jeff Ocampo's four goals for the final score of the period.

Ocampo tied it up with a man up goal with 12:16 left in the half and the score stayed that way until a pair of scores in the final 32 seconds by David Kraus and Ocampo gave the Bears a 4-2 lead heading into the half.

Ursinus scored the first goal of the third period, as well, before Tyler DiStefano (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) put a halt to the five goal run with a Wesley goal with 3:01 left in the period. Ocampo dished out an assist to Dan Monzo with a man advantage with just nine seconds left in the third to make the score 6-3 heading into the fourth quarter.

Ursinus stretched the lead out to 9-4 after an Eric Farris goal with 3:04 left, but late scores by Skeels and Joe Trezza (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) in the final minute cut into the Bears lead.

Skeels and D'Alonzo finished with two goals apiece for Wesley. Defensively, Ryan Morris (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) caused four turnovers.

Corey Bousquet (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) made his first career start and made 11 saves for the Wolverines.

Ocampo led all players with four goals and an assist, while Farris notched two goals and two assists. T.J. Magnani stopped 10 shots for the Bears, who held a 37-27 advantage on ground balls.

Wesley looks for its first win on Saturday, March 13 at Marywood.

DOVER, Del. Paced by four goals from sophomore midfielder Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast, Fla./Mantanzas), the Ursinus College men's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2007 as the Bears defeated Wesley (0-4) 9-6 on Wednesday night in non-conference play.

Ocampo scored four goals and added in an assist, while senior midfielder Eric Farris (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) and senior attack Dan Monzo (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) also scored two goals in the win. Farris added two assists.

Trailing 2-0 just 4:39 in, Ursinus scored five straight goals to take a 5-2 lead with 5:15 left in the third. Ocampo scored his first two goals, one with 9:07 left in the first, and his second with 12:16 left in the first half on an assist from Farris.

Ursinus scored two goals in the last 32 seconds of the half, as sophomore attack David Kraus (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) scored with 32 seconds left in the second for a 3-2 lead, followed by a goal form Ocampo with eight seconds left in the half for a 4-2 lead at intermission.

With 5:15 left in the third, Monzo scored on a goal from Farris for a 5-2 lead. Wesley would answer back, before Ursinus scored an extra man goal with nine seconds left as Monzo scored on an assist from Ocampo.

Farris scored his first goal with 9:58 left in the fourth for a 7-3 Bears lead. After Wesley added one with 4:51 left, Ocampo scored with 3:56 left, followed by a goal form Farris with 3:04 left for a 9-4 lead.

Freshman goalkeeper T.J. Magnani (Bear, Del./Saint Mark's) had ten saves in the win, while Kraus picked up four groundballs.

Ursinus goes to Eastern on Saturday.
