No. 2 Salisbury Throttles York in CAC Action

YORK, Pa. The Salisbury University women's lacrosse team defeated York (Pa.) College 21-3 in a Capital Athletic Conference contest on Friday afternoon. The win marks the Sea Gulls' second road victory of the season, as they previously defeated Christopher Newport University 21-6 on Feb. 20.

The Sea Gulls (6-0, 2-0 CAC) opened the game up with a three-goal run, with the first being scored by junior midfielder Aileen McCausland (Phoenix, Md.) and a pair of goals scored by senior midfielder Jessica Chmielewski (Woodbine, Md.). The Spartans (3-3, 0-2 CAC) got on the board with a free position goal by Kimberly Wayson. The maroon and gold would proceed to reel off eight straight goals, coming from seven different players, before York tallied its only other score of the half to make it 11-2 at the break. Salisbury outscored York 10-1 in the second half of play, sealing the victory.

Freshman attacker Maggie Roundy (Ijamsville, Md.) led the way on as she recorded a career-high five points on three goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Allie Wheatley (Cambridge, Md.) scored three goals on three shots in the victory. Four Gulls finished with two goals in the contest, including Chmielewski, junior attacker Meagan Osipowich (Hauppauge, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Connell (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Roxanne Raab (Fallston, Md.).

Salisbury played all three freshman goalkeepers in the contest, with Ali Meeks (Pasadena, Md.) notching her second win of the season. Fellow classmates Keli Berkman (Salisbury, Md.) and Caity Coleman (South Huntington, N.Y.) each finished with two saves.

The Sea Gulls will be back in action on Sunday at Sea Gull Stadium against Roanoke College at 1:00 p.m. Last season the Gulls defeated the Maroons 23-13 as current senior Kim Cudmore (Bel Air, Md.) put up a career-high 11 points on six goals and five assists.
