Cook, Wildcats Roll by Howard to Second Straight Win

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Davidson women's lacrosse team made it two wins in a row as Haley Cook (Darien, Conn.) led the way with four goals and five Wildcats in all had a multi-goal game in a 19-6 conference road win at Howard on Saturday afternoon at Greene Stadium.

Davidson ran its overall mark to 3-4, while improving to 2-0 in the National Lacrosse Conference, while Howard remained winless at 0-6 and 0-2 in league play. The 'Cats remained perfect against the Bison in the all-time series at 6-0.

Cook had her sixth straight multi-goal game of the season, getting three of her team-best four goals in the first half when Davidson turned a 3-2 lead into a 14-3 advantage at halftime behind an 11-1 scoring spree to close the half. The senior has a team-high 20 goals on the season and 22 points overall.

Joining Cook in the scoring column was her fellow classmates Jen Crawford (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Emily Rahill (Ridgewood, N.J.), along with the freshman duo of Alanna Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) and Jessica Palfrey (Bronxville, N.Y.) as all four Wildcats found the back of the net three times each.

Helping assist on a few of those goals was Lindsay Cooper (Baltimore, Md.), who led the way for Davidson with a season-best three assists, while Anna Smith (Newburyport, Mass.) added a pair of helpers.

Davidson as a team matched its season-high in goals and points (26), while the 'Cats' 29 shots were second-most on the year.

The game started out close as Rahill gave Davidson an early 1-0 lead before the Bison's Desiree Cox scored the first of her game-high five goals a minute later to tie things up.

Cook and Palfrey got the next two Wildcat goals as they led 3-1 after five minutes of play. Cox struck again with an unassisted goal at the 18:40 mark to cut the Davidson lead to one at 3-2.

From there, it was all Davidson as they went on a 6-0 run over the next six minutes to grab a 9-2 lead after Parker's second goal in the stretch and 12:34 remaining in the half. Palfrey also scored twice during the run and Jenna Mugele (Baltimore, Md.) threw in her sixth score of the season.

After another Cox goal, the Wildcats closed out the half on another run, this one a 5-0 spurt that saw Rahill and Cook score twice each on back-to-back goals for a 14-3 halftime lead. Cooper registered two assists on the Cook's two scores.

Davidson was able to tack on five more goals on nine shots in the second period in cruising to the 19-6 win. Crawford scored twice in the half, including the first one of the period, while freshman Kenna Classen (Baltimore, Md.) added her seventh goal of the season.

Michelle Pav (Golden, Colo.) and Jessica Melby (Pittsburgh, Pa.) each played a half in goal for Davidson, with Pav recording all three Wildcat saves in the winning effort.

Defensively, the Wildcats forced Howard into 15 turnovers, causing four of them as Taylor Ketcham (Hampstead, N.C.) earned two forced turnovers. Cook and Crawford each had two of Davidson's eight groundballs, while Cook picked up three draw controls.

Howard's goalkeeper Sonja White finished with two saves, while Ashley Lawrence had two groundballs.

The Wildcats now return home for a mid-week game against Lafayette on Wednesday, Mar. 17, at 6:00 p.m. in Richardson Stadium.
