Sewanee Downs Redlands on Western Trip

REDLANDS, Calif. - The Sewanee women's lacrosse team played game two of its spring break tour of California and picked up a 20-12 win over Redlands after leading 11-6 at the half. Just six minutes in, the score was tied at 3-3, but Sewanee pulled away to be up by five at the half. In the second, Redlands rallied, scoring five of six goals to pull within three, but Sewanee went on a five-goal run and got the eventual eight-goal win.

Molly Arnold (Brooklandville, Md., Bryn Mawr) led Sewanee with six goals and is leading the Tigers so far with nine goals in two game. She also chipped in two assists. Allison Bland (Houston, TXexas, St. John's) and Meg Welton (Germantown, Tenn., Houston) each had four Sewanee goals, also. The Tigers shot 62% from the field.

Amy Nusbaum (Norfolk, Va., Norfolk Academy) and Theresa Monypeny (Memphis, Tenn., Hutchinson) split time in goal for Sewanee to get the win and Page Carpenter (Baltimore, Md., St. Paul's School for Girls) and Welton led with four ground balls each. Christy Smith led Redlands with five goals.

Sewanee is 1-1 so far and will play at Pomona Monday. Redlands is now 3-2.
