Robert Morris Outlasts Manhattan

Moon Township, Pa. - March 14, 2010 - The Robert Morris University Colonials played an aggressive game from start to finish, which led to an 11-7 Colonial win. Robert Morris led for the entire contest except for one tie, which lasted for a little over three minutes at the start of the second half. With the win, Robert Morris improves to 2-3, while the Jaspers drop to 1-4.

Senior Alana Beck (Carle Place, N.Y. / Old Dominion) led the Colonials with a season-high three goals and five points and sophomore Courtney Sicinski (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) also captured a hat trick in the win and earned her third four-point game of the year.

Junior Lynette Gomez (Ocean, N.J. / Ocean Township) finished the contest with two goals and Ali Gibbons (Candia, N.H. / Machester) added two helpers. Colleen ODonnell (Portland, Ore. / St. Marys Academy), Ashley Trombetta (Sykesville, Md. / Century) and Erin Finnegan (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) all recorded one goal one assist performances.

The Colonials quickly set the pace of the game when Finnegan scored within one minute of the opening draw off a Sicinski assist. At 5:07 Sicinski followed her assist with a goal and then at 8:55 Beck scored her first of the day to quickly give RMU a three goal lead.

Manhattan responded with two unassisted goals by Chrissy Gutenberger and Phelicia VanOverbeke within one minute of each other to cut the lead to one with 19:46 left in the half. Sicinski scored her second goal of the game with Beck assisting on the play at 18:09 to give RMU a two goal cushion, but Manhattan was able to score with 3:29 left to play to lessen the gap to one at 4-3.

A goal by Manhattans Caralyn Hickey at 3:04 gave the game its first tie, 4-4, but RMU responded with goals by Trombetta, Sicinski and Gomez over the next 19 minutes, while holding the Jaspers scoreless to give the Colonials a 7-4 lead.

Manhattan was able to squeeze in a couple goals within a nine second span at the 23:00 and 24:09 marks, but the Colonials were able to find the net four more times within the last four minutes of play with Gomez scoring the last RMU goal with nine seconds left.

The Jaspers found the net once more with a second left to play, but Robert Morris secured the win, 11-7.

Senior goalie Erica Webb (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) tallied a season-high 15 saves, while Manhattan goalie Julia DiBernardo finished with 10 stops.

Robert Morris returns to action on Friday, March 19 when they open up conference play against Long Island at 4:00 p.m.
