Bentley Routs Southern Connecticut, Stays Unbeaten

NEW HAVEN, Conn. Bentley University stayed unbeaten Friday night with a 21-4 win over Southern Connecticut in the Northeast-10 women's lacrosse opener for both teams. Freshman Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) was the Falcons' leading scorer for the fourth straight game with six points (four goals, two assists).

The win improves Bentley's record to 4-0 on the season, the best start in program history. The Falcons have outscored their opponents 80-12 over the first four games.

Freshman Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) was Bentley's other leading scorer with four goals. She and Geiger weren't the only ones who got involved offensively, as a total of 12 players scored goals. Junior Leigh Tedeschi (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) and sophomores Maureen Fields (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) and Megan Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) each had two.

Southern Connecticut stayed close early on, tying the game at two on a free-position shot by Teresa Monfredo. The Falcons though reeled off six straight goals to lead 8-2, followed by an Elaina Helpie goal for the Owls. That was Southern Connecticut's last goal of the half, as Bentley scored four straight to lead 12-3 at the break. The Falcons outscored their hosts 10-1 in the second half.
