Davis Keys Surge as Castleton Falls to Plymouth State

Castleton, VT - Castleton State College did not trail until 10:33 remaining in the second half on the first of five-straight goals from Brianna Davis (Framingham, MA) as Plymouth State earned a 14-8 non-conference victory at Spartan Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Castleton (2-2) held a 5-3 lead at intermission, and pushed the lead to 6-3 just 18 seconds into the second half on a Stephanie Pearce (Shoreham, NY) tally.

Plymouth State (2-1) answered with three-straight goals, including two from Kalie Judd (Peabody, MA) and one from Caitlin Swanson (Holderness, NH).

Nicole Adams (Rutland, VT) grabbed the lead back at 7-6 for Castleton with 19:17 remaining in the contest, but it would be the final lead of the game as the Panthers exploded for six-straight goals to put the game out of reach.

Judd tied the game with 16:08 remaining, and from that point Davis took over. The sophomore attack scored five-straight times, the first three coming within one-minute-and-thirty-seconds of each other.

Davis also added an assist to lead the Panthers with six points, Judd added four goals and one assist, while Brittney Chiles (North Andover, MA) chipped in three goals. Swanson and Jenn Foley (Tewksbury, MA) each had one goal and two assists in the Panther win.

Judd was also key to the Panther transition, grabbing a team-high six ground balls, six draw controls and four caused turnovers. Nora Regan (West Hartford, CT) had but one ground ball, one draw control and one caused turnover, but was instrumental in shutting out Castletons leading scorer Mare VanDerKar (Manchester, VT) without a point. Morgan Lemmon (Gilford, NH) stopped eight shots in the win.

Adams led the Spartan attack with three goals and two assists and Pearce scored a pair of goals. Elizabeth Haggerty (Conterport, NY), Stephanie Paproski (Newtown, CT) and Angelica Mazzola (Centerport, NY) each had one goal in the loss. VanDerKar, although held scoreless, did provide a team-high four ground balls and caused a pair of Panther turnovers. Rebecca Duszak (Erieville, NY) made nine saves in net for the Spartans.

Castleton returns to action on March 22 at 6:00 p.m. when the Spartans play host to Skidmore in non-conference action. The Panthers travel to Framingham State on March 23, first draw scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
