Christiansen Nets Eight in Losing Effort to Cazenovia

CHITTENANGO, N.Y. (March 21, 2010) The Maritime women's lacrosse team lost to non-conference opponent Cazenovia, 19-13, on the road on Saturday in its second contest of the 2010 season. The Privateers fall to an even 1-1 in defeat, while the Wildcats improve to 1-2 overall.

Senior Heather Christiansen (Baldwin, N.Y.) netted a game-high eight goals to lead Maritime, while sophomore tri-captain Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored three goals for a hat trick and picked up four draw controls. Junior Jill Davenport (Miller Place, N.Y.) and freshman Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J.) each found the back of the net once in the game. Sophomore Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y.) tallied two assists and a game-high-tying five draw controls.

Cazenovia built up a 13-7 lead before halftime thanks in large part to outshooting the Privateers, 25-15. Senior goalie, tri-captain Meagan Golden, registered six saves in the opening half of play and ended the day with a total of eight in the losing effort. The teams were dead even with six goals, apiece in the second half.

The Wildcats were led by Christy Foster, who scored a team-high seven goals, while senior Courtney Caldwell also had a seven-point effort with three goals and four assists. Freshman goalie Liz Cook made nine saves on the day to record her first collegiate win.

The Privateers return to action later today, March 21, 2010, when they play Alfred University (2-1) at 1:00 p.m. at the Saxons' Merrill Field. First draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
