Bellarmine Earns Comeback Win Over Colonials

Moon Township, Pa. - March 21, 2010 - The Robert Morris University Colonials were leading after the first three quarters, but an 8-1 run by Bellarmine in the fourth quarter sent the Knights past Robert Morris, 18-15, on Sunday afternoon at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Junior Trevor Moore (Port Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) led the Colonials with four goals and one assist, while sophomore Kiel Matisz (Stoney Creek, Ontario / Saltfleet) added three goals and three assists and junior Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) finished the contest with three goals and two helpers.

Matisz started the contest with a goal just 43 seconds into the first quarter, but Bellarmine ended up dominating the first 15 minutes by scoring six goals to RMUs three. Tao-Brambleby ended the quarter with a goal off a Matisz assist with just one second left to play to cut the Knights lead to just three.

The Colonials stormed back in the second quarter and reeled off the first five goals of the session to take an 8-6 lead. Moore contributed two of the goals and an assist during the Colonial run.

The Knights were finally able find the back of the net with 6:34 left to play to cut RMUs lead to one and from that point the two squads traded goals for the remainder of the quarter, setting the score at 10-9 in RMUs favor at the end of the half.

Bellarmine started off the third quarter with a quick goal when Sean Doyle found the net just 29 seconds in, but once again Robert Morris dominated the quarter by scoring the next four goals all by different Colonials.

The Colonials entered the final quarter with a 14-10 advantage, but were unable to hold that lead as the Knights went on a scoring rampage and fired off seven unanswered goals throughout the first 14 minutes of play. It was not until 50 seconds left on the clock when Robert Morris was able to get a goal and bring the score within two at 17-15. However, Bellarmines Derek Hopcroft solidified the win, 18-15 by scoring with just 18 seconds left to play.

RMUs Dillon Pope (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) finished the contest with five saves, while Dillon Ward earned four saves for Bellarmine.

The Colonials were successful on 2 of 3 extra man opportunities, while Bellarmine went 2 for 4.
