Mercer Island Hosts Northwest Invitational This Weekend
The Fifth Annual Northwest Invitational Tournament will be held this weekend in Mercer Island near Seattle. The event pits a number of high quality boys' high school teams from Idaho, Neada, Oregon, and Washington as well as two teams from British Columbia and Lakeland-Panas, a perennial powerhouse from New York's Westchester County north of New York City.
The event, which is the brainchild of Mercer Island coach Ian O'Hearn, will once again be a 14-team invitational. It will take place on Friday, March 26th through Sunday, March 28th. All 14 teams are state or provincial play-off participants, with five different states and one province represented.
The tournament was started five years ago to help promote inter-regional play and to draw teams from outside the region to the Northwest. Teams participating in previous invitationals have included Cape Elizabeth from Maine, Lakeland/Panas from New York, Arapahoe from Colorado, M.B.A. from Tennessee, Bonanza from Nevada and Alta, Bountiful and Bingham from Utah.
