No. 1 C.W. Post Clamps Down on Dominican in ECC Action
Brookville, NY (3/24/10) -- The Dominican College men's lacrosse team fell to the top ranked Pioneers of C.W. Post University, 10-3, this afternoon in East Coast Conference (ECC) action.
The game was scoreless for almost the first ten minutes of the first quarter until the Pioneers netted a goal with 6:07 on the clock. C.W. Post would tally two more goals in the first quarter for a 3-0 lead.
The Pioneers continued on the scoring run with five more goals and extending their lead to 8-0 when junior midfielder Tyler Douglas (St. Albert, AB) recorded his second goal of the season. Following a Pioneer goal, ECC Co-Player of the Week, Alex Jones (St. Albert, AB) netted his team leading 17th goal of the season to trail at the break, 8-2.
The third quarter featured two C.W. Post goals to increase their lead to 10-2, while junior Jesse Peterson (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) netted the fourth quarter's only goal with 11:44 remaining in regulation.
C.W. Post outshot Dominican, 43-20 and held a 40-31 advantage in ground balls.
Dominican goalie Brendan Bonacum (Port Jefferson Station, NY) made 28 saves in the loss.
With the loss Dominican slips to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the ECC, while #1 C. W. Post improves to 8-0 and 4-0 in the ECC.
The Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to ECC opponent Molloy College for a 1:00 pm game.
