Balanced Scoring Helps No. 5 Bentley Down Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass. Sophomore Brendan Grant (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) led a balanced scoring effort with a hat trick as No. 5 Bentley improved to 2-1 on the season with an 11-6 win over Assumption in Northeast-10 men's lacrosse Wednesday night.

In addition to Grant's three goals, senior Kevin Gould (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) and sophomore James Reardon (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) each had two tallies. Four other players also scored.

A slow start for the Falcons left the score tied at one after the first quarter, but the home side shutout the Greyhounds 6-0 in the second quarter to take a 7-1 lead into halftime. Bentley's balanced attack was on full display in the second quarter as six different players scored, including a man-up goal from senior Addi Van Hatcher (Tigard, Ore./Oregon Episcopal).

Grant scored a pair in the third quarter, and Assumption's John Murphy scored a man-up goal with 1:04 left in the quarter for its first goal since the 12:26 mark of the first period. That left the score 9-2 in favor of the hosts going into the final quarter.

Assumption mounted a bit of a rally in the fourth, outscoring Bentley 4-2, but it wasn't enough as the Falcons came away with a win in their first NE-10 game of the season.

Senior goalie Andy Collette (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) made seven saves for his second win of the season.

The Falcons are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Franklin Pierce at 1:00 p.m.
