Holy Family Fights off Dominican for One-Goal Victory

PHILADELPHIA The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team jumped to an 8-2 lead in the first half and held on to defeat Dominican (N.Y.) College, 11-10, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match on Thursday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Midfielder Katherine Podlinski (so. Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) led the offense for Holy Family (2-2, 2-0 CACC) with three goals and one assist. Attacks Gina Mansi (so. Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) and Jenn James (jr. Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) and midfielder Stephanie McNesby (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) all added two goals a piece.

James also dished out an assist. Midfielders Lauren Greco (so. Holland, Pa./Council Rock S.) and Jamie-Lynn Wallace (gr. Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth) found the back of the net once for the Tigers. Wallace tallied an assist.

Goalkeeper Melissa Jenkins (so. Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) stopped eight shots to earn her second victory of the season.

The Tigers jumped out to 3-0 lead in the opening 6:15. Podlinski recorded a goal and an assist in the early run. The lead was down to 4-2 when Holy Family rattled off four straight goals to increase the gap to 8-2. Wallace, James, Mansi and Greco each found the back of the net. Holy Family at the break, 9-4.

In the second half, Dominican closed the gap to 9-6 with back-to-back goals in the first 10 minutes. Holy Family got its five-goal lead back after scores by Podlinski and McNesby. The Chargers closed out the game with the final four goals, the last one coming two players down with only 58 seconds left.

Midfielder Aubree Williams led Dominican (0-5, 0-4 CACC) with four points (two goals, two assists). Midfield Silje Karlsen scored three times. Goalkeeper Lindsey Grundfast recorded 10 saves. Holy Family outshot Dominican, 22-18.

Holy Family travels to Philadelphia University for a CACC contest on Saturday, March 27 at noon.
