Eastern/Southern Games of the Week, March 26-28

Interstate match-ups featuring teams in Pennsylvania, New York, and the nation's capital as well as some in-state tilts in Maryland and Ohio highlight this week's high school boys' lacrosse docket.

March 26

Hereford Bulls (MD) vs. Fallston Cougars (MD)
The Maryland public schools are in full swing and this is a great early-season matchup. Last year's game was one of the best of the season with Hereford winning 15-14 in overtime. Hereford is the defending state champs and are led by Rustin Bryant (Maryland) at attack. Regardless of the winner, both squads are at the forefront of their respective classes.

March 27

Conestoga Pioneers (PA) vs. Landon Bears (DC)
Landon is off to a hot start in 2010, going 3-0 out of the gate including an 11-10 overtime thriller over St. Mary's. Conestoga is regarded as the top team in the Keystone State. A pair of Maryland recruits lead the Pioneers in defensemen Casey Ikeda and middie Ryan Lord. Austin Rogusky (Loyola) helps bolster one of the best midfields in the state.

Ward Melville Patriots (NY) vs. Emmaus Green Hornets (PA)
This is an interesting early season matchup. Ward Melville fell just short of the Long Island championship last season and is atop the pack year in and year out. Emmaus is an up-and-coming program in Pennsylvania. The Green Hornets made a deep run in the playoffs last season and return a bulk of their starters. Don't sleep on Emmaus in this game, they could surprise some people.

March 28

Western Reserve Academy Pioneers (OH) vs. Worthington Kilbourne Wolves (OH)
Western Reserve has fallen in their first two games, but they are facing some of the best competition in the country. Last season, the Pioneers handed Kilbourne their only in-state loss of the season. The Wolves are led by Will Campbell (UNC) at the midfield. Western Reserve features a strong midfield as well. These are two of the best in Ohio and this game may just be won between the boxes.
