Maritime Drops Skyline Opener to Farmingdale State

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 26, 2010) The Maritime women's lacrosse team lost its Skyline Conference-opener Friday night to Farmingdale State, 20-4, in chilly weather at Reinhart Field. The Privateers fall to 1-3 overall (0-1 Skyline) in defeat, while the Rams improve to an even 2-2 overall (2-1 Skyline).

Sophomore-transfer Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y.) led the way for Maritime with three points on the night two goals and one assist while picking up one ground ball and one draw control. Senior Heather Christiansen (Baldwin, N.Y.) added her team-leading 17th goal of the season, while registering a Privateer-high four ground balls in the loss. Sophomore tri-captain Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored a first-half goal to round out the scorers for the Privateers.

In net, senior tri-captain Meagan Golden (Point Pleasant, N.J.) was strong, stopping nine shots of the 29 peppered in her direction.

Farmingdale State was led by junior Justine Rothar and freshman Emily Williams, who each scored a game-high six goals. Rothar added three assists for nine points on the night, while Williams had one help for seven points. Freshman Kim Lehmann led all players with five ground balls and senior Kathy Waite's five draw controls was also a game-high.

The Privateers will begin a three-game road trip when they travel to Providence, R.I., to take on Rhode Island College on Thursday, April 1. Game time in the capital of the Ocean State is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Anchorwomen's Varsity Athletic Complex.
