Mercy Charges Past Lancaster Bible
Seven different players scored as the Mercy College women's lacrosse team rolled to a 21-5 win over Lancaster Bible tonight at SUNY Purchase.
On a very cold night, with temperature dipping into the upper 30's, Mercy (4-2, 0-0 East Coast Conference) got off to a quick start. Freshmen Jamie McPartland (North Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale) and Kelsey Sullivan (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) lit the lamp early in the first 1:19 of the game for an early 2-0 lead.
After a Lancaster Bible goal by Rachel Warren, Brianna Horn (Wantagh, N.Y./Kellenberg) and Sullivan put the Mavericks up 4-1. The Mavericks would never trail, winning 21-5.
For the game, McPartland, Sullivan, and Kerry Goodnight (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport Blue Point) each had four goals apiece. Horn and Marissa Hurley (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) each added three, while Brittany Ott (Copaigue, N.Y./Copaigue) scored twice. Freshman Rachel Ferri (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) scored her first collegiate goal, at the 18:14 mark of the first half.
Freshman goalie Lauren Mateja (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) made three saves in goal, facing only ten shots.
Mercy next travels to face Dominican College at Torne Valley on Tuesday, March 30, at 4:00 p.m.
