Roanoke Cruises Past Colorado College in DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Roanoke got back on the winning track with a 12-5 win over Colorado College Saturday morning on the campus of Catholic University. The win propels the Maroons record to 3-4, while the Tigers slipped to 5-1.

Roanoke stormed out the gate early, scoring the first four goals of the contest to take control early. Then Colorado College scored back-to-back goals to cut it to within towards the end of the first half. Roanoke scored just before time expired to take a 5-2 halftime lead.

The Maroons continued to thrive in the second half in what was arguably their best game of the season. The women started off the second half the same as the first, scoring four-straight goals to take a commanding 9-2 advantage.

Gina Valles led Roanoke with four goals and two assists. Mary Kate Cummings netted three goals, followed by Kathleen Wager with two goals. Paige Mason added a goal and an assist.

Casey Esloon finished with four saves in goal for the Maroons.

As a team, the Maroons held a 26-16 shots advantage, 19-9 in shots on goal. They collected 10 groundballs and were 12 for 13 on clear attempts.

The women will return to action this Monday as they travel to Lexington, VA to take on ODAC-rival #16 Washington & Lee. The Maroons are 14-21 all-time against the Generals and defeated W&L twice last season en route to claiming the 2009 ODAC regular season and tournament championships. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
