Cazenovia Rolls Over College of St. Elizabeth

CHITTENANGO, N.Y. The Cazenovia College women's lacrosse team outshot the visiting College of St. Elizabeth (N.J.) Screaming Eagles, 46-4, en route to a dominating, 22-3, victory Saturday afternoon at Chittenango High School.

The Wildcats improved to 2-3 overall with the win. St. Elizabeth dropped to 0-5 on the season. The Screaming Eagles traveled with only nine players and competed with three players down for the entire contest.

Cassandra Gazeley (West Sand Lake, NY) had a game-high four goals and five assists to lead the Cazenovia attack. Courtney Caldwell (Black River, NY) notched three goals and four assists and now leads the team on the season with 11 goals and 13 assists. Nicole Modafferi (Cicero, NY) and Ashley Rasberry (Livonia, NY) also added three goals apiece and Christy Foster (Canton, NY), Lana Lewis (Brunswick, MD) and Danielle Clark (Camillus, NY) each scored twice. A total of 10 players got in on the scoring for the Wildcats and seven different players were credited with an assist in the blowout.

Meghan Murray had two goals to lead St. Elizabeth.

Modafferi scored Cazenovia's two opening goals to get the ball rolling for the Wildcats, who found themselves leading, 10-0, just 13 minutes into the contest. Murray got St. Elizabeth on the board at the 16:07 mark but, the Wildcats scored four unanswered to end the half up, 14-1.

The second half was much of the same. Cazenovia scored two goals to start the half and then outscored the Screaming Eagles, 6-2, the rest of the way to earn the victory.

The ground balls category was also lopsided in the one, in favor of the Wildcats, 50-12. Cazenovia was successful on 8 of 9 clears. Meanwhile, St. Elizabeth converted just 5 of 24 and also committed 35 turnovers.

Liz Cook (Bernhards Bay, NY) played 60 minutes in goal for Cazenovia and recorded one save.

The Wildcats will host Elmira College at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Chittenango High School.
