No. 2 Le Moyne Pitches Shutout Against Assumption

Syracuse, N.Y. A Le Moyne defense anchored by preseason All-American Drew Bezek (Lowville, N.Y./Lowville) did not surrender a goal in Saturday's 8-0 win over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.

The Dolphins, ranked #2 in the most recent Division II USILA Poll, blanked an opponent for the first time since a 17-0 win over American International in 2008. Bezek, graduate student Ryan Smith (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Hofstra) and sophomore Chris Aubertine (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee/Navy) led a defensive effort that forced 34 Assumption turnovers and killed both Assumption extra-man opportunities.

Freshman goalkeeper Jeff White (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius HS) had to make two saves in just over three quarters of work to earn his sixth win of the season and the first shutout of his collegiate career. Sophomore Matt Krupka (Nedrow, N.Y./Onondaga) collected one save and kept the Greyhounds scoreless over the final 13 minutes. For Assumption, goalkeeper Scott Vogel stopped 24 shots between the pipes.

Eight players accounted for all of Le Moyne's scores on the afternoon. Two minutes into the game, junior Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) sent home his fifth goal of the season to put Le Moyne on the board. Classmate Matt Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn), the team's leading goal scorer with 15 markers on the season, followed seven minutes later with an unassisted score of his own to give the Dolphins a two-goal advantage.

Le Moyne tacked on two more goals in the second quarter and outshot Assumption, 20-1, in the same span. Senior Mike Rabbitt (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) scored 3:15 into the quarter and junior Nick DiSarro (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) followed suit five minutes later off a feed from Venditti. Junior Corey Bulken (Baldwinsville, N.Y. /C.W. Baker) won 5 of 6 face-offs in the first half and Le Moyne collected 24 ground balls to take control.

Le Moyne's offense put together a three-goal spurt over a three-minute span midway through the third quarter. Venditti found junior Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse) for a man-up goal six minutes into the half. Sophomore Taylor Brooks (Cypress, Tex./Cy-Fair) struck less than two minutes later before junior Vinnie Alexander (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) notched his fifth goal of the season. Sophomore Sean Connors (Camillus, N.Y./Marcellus) capped the game's scoring with 38 seconds remaining in the third quarter, off of an assist from Harmatuk.

Le Moyne (6-0, NE-10 3-0) stayed perfect in winning its 39th straight regular-season game. The Dolphins travel to Springfield, Mass. Monday for a 4:00 p.m. conference game against American International.
