Valletta Scores Four as Le Moyne Stops Siena

Syracuse, N.Y. Junior midfielder Mia Valletta (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) scored four goals and freshman attacker Brenna Bauer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) notched four points to lead the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team past Siena, 14-8, Saturday afternoon at Solvay High School.

The Dolphins exploded out of the gate en route to their sixth straight win. Junior defender Katlin Walker (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) opened the game's scoring 13 seconds in on a free-position shot. Valletta followed 90 seconds later with a tally off an pass from classmate Nerissa Barzee (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville). Junior midfielder Rebekah Elmer (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) and freshman midfielder Gabrielle Kamide (Deferiet, N.Y./Carthage) each netted goals off free-position shots to give Le Moyne a 4-0 lead just over five minutes into the game.

After Caitlin Mikel put the Saints on the board, Bauer netted back-to-back goals in a 40-second span. Junior Leah Lazarz (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) fed the freshman for her first goal of the afternoon. Bauer scored the second on a free-position shot. The Dolphins went scoreless over the next 17 minutes while Siena tacked on two more goals to cut Le Moyne's lead in half, 6-3. But junior attacker Michelle Phillips (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine Endwell) found Barzee with 3:39 left to give the Dolphins a four-goal cushion at the half.

Le Moyne and Siena traded free-position scores over the first 10 minutes of the second half. Valletta scored first for the Dolphins and Erin Hepper answered for the Saints. Le Moyne's offense took off from there, turning a four-goal lead into a 10-goal advantage with six straight tallies. Bauer scored her third goal of the afternoon on a free-position shot before Valletta turned in her third marker with an unassisted effort. Phillips had a hand in Le Moyne's next three goals by scoring the first and assisting on the others. She found Lazarz first and assisted on Valletta's fourth score.

Freshman attacker Kelly Condon (Victor, N.Y./Canandaigua) dished to sophomore midfielder Stephanie Dussing (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) for the team's final goal with 9:15 left. Siena scored four times over the final eight minutes to produce the 14-8 final score.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Fucillo (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) finished with double-digit saves for the third straight game, stopping 11 shots between the pipes for the Dolphins. Kristin Concordia recorded five saves for the Saints.

The Dolphins (6-3) have put together their longest winning streak since the 2008 campaign, when they won eight straight. Le Moyne travels to Bucknell for a 4:00 p.m. game Wednesday.
