Widener Shuts Down Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Widener University scored six first-quarter goals and held Lebanon Valley College to just one score in the first three quarters as the Pride won, 15-3, in Middle Atlantic Conference play on Saturday.

The Dutchmen (2-4, 0-2 MAC) had goals by Brendon Cummings, Ian Schmid, and Scott Sutton. Ethan Hilberg made 14 saves in goal.

Widener dominated the game in the circle, winning 16 of 22 face-offs to control the pace of the game. The Pride scored 12 unanswered in the middle part of the game as they limited LVC to eight first-half shots and outshot then 45-22 overall.

Cory Malampy led Widener with a hat trick, and JJ Hoeffler, Ryan Shewell, and Mike Vandegrift also had two-goal games.

Bobby Schulter picked up the win with three saves in three periods of play, ant Tommy Hoopes made four stops for the Pride in the fourth quarter. LVC ripped off 11 shots in the fourth as Schmid and Sutton found the net for the game's final two goals.

LVC will be back in action Thursday to host Messiah at 4:00 p.m.
