No. 6 Syracuse Runs by Rutgers to Open Big East Play

Syracuse picked up a pair of goals to extend its lead to 7-2, while sophomore Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) added another score for the Scarlet Knights, making it 7-3. Cantwell found the back of the net with 10 minutes remaining as the Orange scored four consecutive goals to pull away 11-4.

The first half ended with a 13-5 mark in Syracuse's favor as Welsh tallied Rutgers final goal of the opening period.

The Scarlet Knights reversed fortunes in the second half, out-scoring the Orange by a slight margin, 5-4, but it was not enough to erase the earlier deficit.

Cantwell scored three of her four goals in the second half, while Rutgers also received goals from Welsh and junior Jennifer Schmitt (Baltimore, Md.). Cantwell has tallied four goals in back-to-back games, the first coming on the road at Denver. She has also continued a streak of 19-straight games with a point scored.

Following the four-game stint away from Piscataway, the Scarlet Knights will return home to host another BIG EAST foe in Connecticut on Saturday, April 3, at 12:00 p.m. It will be Rutgers' first game of the season at Yurcak Field.
