Greensboro Loses Wild One to Frostburg in Overtime
Frostburg, MD -- Christie Hebert (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) scored seven goals, but it wasn't enough as Greensboro College lost at Frostburg State, 19-18, in overtime on Sunday. GC dropped to 8-3 and FSU improved to 5-4.
The Pride jumped out to a 5-0 lead and was ahead 10-7 at halftime. Playing its second game on the road in two days, The Pride allowed FSU to rally. The home team trailed the entire game until Ali Kapustin scored with 2:23 left to tie the game at 15.
There is no "golden goal" in the women's overtime. FSU out-scored GC 4-3 in the added time. Megan Dent-Carman netted the game-winner with just 14 seconds remaining in the second extra period. She had five goals for Frostburg.
Toni Battaglia (Palm Beach Gardens, FL/Jupiter) had four goals and three helpers for The Pride. Teammate Layne Woodard ( East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) potted four goals and dished three assists.
The Bobcats had the edge in shots, 35-34. Greensboro led in draw controls, 26-15. Jessica Catanzano (Seaford, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) recorded eight saves for the visitors.
Hebert's seven goals was one short of the single-game record she holds with Lorin Smith.
The loss ended a three match winning streak for The Pride. GC next hosts Randolph College Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
