Strong Second Half Lifts NEC Past Nichols

Manchester, N.H. New England College women's lacrosse exploded for 12 second half goals lifting the Pilgrims past the Nichols College Bison 15-4 Monday afternoon at Larkin Field on the campus of Southern N.H. University. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 2-3 overall and capture their fist conference win improving to 1-2 in the TCCC. The loss drops the Bison to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The Bison would start the scoring just under seven minutes into the opening half as Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) would score off a nice pass from Emily Yourie (Ellington, Conn.). NEC's Lauren Bickford (Lebanon, Maine) would respond knotting the game at 1-1 under a minute later at the 22:29 mark.

Nichols would regain the lead on a goal from Brittany Tremont (Guildford, Conn.) but NEC would close out the half with two unanswered goals by Katie Palasz (Granby, Mass.) sending the Pilgrims into halftime with the 3-2 lead.

NEC would extend their lead to 4-2 just minutes into the second half as Rebecca Harvey (Natick, Mass.) would net an unassisted goal. Nichols would get the goal back as Krista Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) would net her team high twenty first goal of the season.

The NEC offense would then explode with 10 goals over the next 19 minutes extending their lead to 14-3. The Bison would get a goal back late but it would not be enough as the Pilgrims would eventually cruise to the 15-4 victory.

Leading the way for Nichols was Brittany Tremont who scored twice for the Bison. Leading the way for NEC was Katie Palasz who netted four goals and had an assist. NEC's Rebecca Harvey and Lauren Bickford each scored twice for the Pilgrims.

Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Alexandra DiRico (Limerick, Pa.) who finished with five saves. In goal for Nichols was Mary Michaud (Agawam, Mass.) who had an impressive 24 saves on the afternoon.
