Castleton State Runs by Green Mountain

Castleton, VT - Nicole Adams (Rutland, VT) scored five goals and handed out one assist to lead Castleton State College to a 19-4 win over Green Mountain College in non-conference womens lacrosse action at Spartan Stadium Tuesday evening. With the win Castleton improves to 5-3, while Green Mountain falls to 2-3 on the season.

Stephanie Pearce (Shoreham, NY) added three goals and two assists, while Marie VanDerKar (Manchester, VT) added three goals and one assist to aid the Spartan attack. Elizabeth Haggerty (Centerport, NY) tallied three markers, and Jennifer Macari (Central Islip, NY) chipped in two to round out the multi-goal scorers for the Spartans. Angelica Mazzola (Centerport, NY) scored one goal and had three assists, Stephanie Paproski (Newtown, CT) had one goal and one assist, while Katelyn Nardini (Scotia-Glenville, NY) rounded out the scoring with a single tally.

Bryanna Astor (Milltown, NJ) converted a pair of eight-meter free position goals to pace the Eagle attack, while Celie Degasse (St. Petersburg, FL) added one goal and one assist and Amanda Posey (Columbus, GA) chipped in a single goal.

VanDerKar put the Spartans ahead for good just 38 seconds into the contest, converting her 25th goal of the season. Pearce converted a free position attempt just over one-minute-thirty-seconds later to push the lead to 2-0. Dagesse cut the lead in half with just under 26 minutes left in the first, scoring on a nifty behind the back score after circling the net. The momentum was short-lived however; as Castleton rattled off the next eight goals in succession and eventually took a commanding, 13-2 lead into the interval.

Kelsy Allan (Jupiter, FL) stopped five shots in the loss for Green Mountain, while Rebecca Duszak (Erieville, NY) made one save in the first half to earn the win for Castleton. Lily Derbyshire (Little Compton, RI) stopped one shot in her 30 minutes of second-half relief.

Castleton held a 27-9 advantage in shots, and a 34-20 advantage in ground balls while forcing 35 Eagle turnovers to just 20 of their own. VanDerKar corralled a team-high eight ground balls and had four draw controls, while causing five turnovers.

Corey Gilbert (Henniker, NH) led the Eagles with seven ground balls.

Castleton returns to action Saturday at 4:00 p.m., when the Spartans play host to Bridgewater State in a rematch of the 2009 New England Womens Lacrosse Alliance Championship game. Green Mountain is also in action on Saturday, hosting Husson at 11:00 a.m. in North Atlantic Conference action.
