Seahawks Extinguish the Blazers in CAC Play

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--The Hood College women's lacrosse team (2-8, 0-6 CAC) lost to the St. Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks (3-7, 1-2 CAC) by a 22-4 margin Tuesday in a Capital Athletic Conference match-up.

The hosts reeled off the first seven goals of the game over the opening 13:34. Hood's Lauren Perzan ripped her ninth goal of the season at the 14:24 mark to get the Blazers on the board. But that would be Hood's lone score of the stanza as the Seahawks owned a 12-1 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Kelsey Blackwell, Katie Vu and Jennifer Fischer all added unassisted tallies for the Blazers. Blackwell's score was her team-leading 19th of the spring, while Vu notched her eighth goal and Fischer registered the first goal of her Blazer lacrosse career.

Keeper Sam Liptrap stopped 12 Seahawk shots in defeat. Fischer and Brandy Noel won three draws apiece on the afternoon while Maria Moss and Miriah Stone each scooped three ground balls for Hood.

Fourteen different Seahawks contributed to the scoring with either a goal or an assist. Nora Fallon-Oben finished with six points on four goals and a pair of assists. Netminders Colleen Simpson and Katie Hammerer each played one half between the pipes.

The Blazers next travel to Shepherd University Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. nonconference contest.
