Washington & Jefferson Shuts out Waynesburg

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College scored on 18 of its 29 shot attempts and rolled to an 18-0 women's lacrosse shutout of Waynesburg University on Wednesday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents (6-2) led 10-0 at halftime and held a 29-5 shot advantage. W&J also used a 27-7 ground ball edge and had eight different goal scorers.

Washington & Jefferson netted four goals in the first six minutes, including a pair by sophomore attacker Brittney Oake (Bell Mead, N.J./Montgomery). Oake finished the game with five goals and two assists. She also picked up five ground balls.

Sophomore defender Cayla Grodotzke (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) added three goals and one assist, grabbed six draw controls and forced three turnovers.

Junior attacker Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West), sophomores midfielder Lauren Novak (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) and attacker Joanne Chojecki (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier Senior) and freshman midfielder Kelsey Kraus (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) all contributed two goals. Kraus also handed out three assists.

Junior attacker Shannon Wagner (Venetia, Pa./Peters Twp.) totaled one goal and three assists, while freshman attacker Claire Pilarski (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) scored her first career goal.

Freshman goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) played the first 24 minutes and did not have to make a save to earn the win. Junior Amber Kuntz (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) made four saves in the final 36 minutes.

Washington & Jefferson looks for its second-straight win at Alexandre Stadium on Saturday when the Presidents host Ohio Wesleyan at 2:30 pm.
