No. 17 Washington & Lee Glides by Hollins for ODAC Win

ROANOKE, Va. Sophomore attacker Alli Shearin (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) led the Generals with five goals and five assists as the 17th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team defeated Hollins University, 22-2, on Wednesday afternoon in Roanoke.

The Generals (7-4, 5-0) recorded 11 goals while holding Hollins University (1-6, 0-3) scoreless as they assumed an 11-0 lead at the half. Shearin, first-year attacker Elizabeth Bucklee (Princeton, N.J./Stuart County Day) and junior midfielder Ellie Van Sant (Chevy Chase, Md./The Taft School) all recorded two goals in the first stanza.

HU would record its first tally of the game just 45 seconds into the second half from junior attacker Cait DiMondi, but the Generals would go on to score 11 additional goals as they cruised to the 22-2 victory.

Shearin paced the Generals with 10 points, while Bucklee (2g, 4a) and Ellie Van Sant (3g, 3a) finished with six points apiece. Junior Katharine Farrar (Lexington, Va./Episcopal) and first-year Alex Hamill (Darien, Conn./Darien) split time in goal for W&L, combining for two saves.

Hollins received two goals from DiMondi, while first-year Kelly Sheehan played the entirety in net, stopping 11 shots.

The Generals return to action on Saturday as they host Lynchburg College for a 1:00 pm contest.
