Monmouth Signs Eight Lacrosse Recruits for 2010-2011

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth University lacrosse coach Denise Wescott has announced that Kelly Dalton (Ellicott City, Md./Mount de Sales Academy), Kailey Farrell (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire), Allison Heath (Newton Square, Pa./Radnor), Lauren Johnson (North Belmore, N.Y./Mepham ), Alex Marino (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.), Alex McMahon (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North), Rachel Obregon (Fairfax Station, Va./W.T. Woodson) and Danielle Rakowitz (Montville, N.J./Montville) have signed agreements to attend and play lacrosse at Monmouth University starting in the fall of 2010.

"With the number of starters we are losing from our senior class it was important for us to bring in a strong class that can put in some important minutes of playing time during their freshman year," said first year head coach Denise Wescott. "I have to give credit to the assistant coaches Sarah Masterson and Ashley Waldman for doing such a great job committing most of our recruits over the summer. I was excited to see their commitment level to Monmouth and this lacrosse program. "

The class features three players from New Jersey and one from each of Connecticut, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Two out of the three New Jersey signees played locally at high schools that compete in the Shore Conference. Out of the eight athletes, four will play defense, three are midfielders and one plays on the attack.

Dalton will bring experience as both a defender and midfielder to West Long Branch. She received two varsity letters in lacrosse and field hockey from Mount De Sales Academy in Maryland. Dalton was also named captain of her lacrosse squad this season, and plays for the Ravens on the club level.

Farrell also brings two varsity letters in field hockey (goalie) and lacrosse (midfield) to Monmouth. Farrell was just the fifth player in Cheshire High School history to score 70 goals, and was nominated for All-American recognition. Last season, she was tabbed as an all-conference first team performer and named to the Connecticut All-State Second Team. On the club level, she also played for the Nor'easters.

Heath is a 5-8 defender from Radnor High School in Pennsylvania. As a junior she helped the Red Raiders to a 21-1 record en route to a State Championship. Heath was a Second Team All-Central League selection in 2009 and was named to the Under Armour All-Star Philly Team. On the club level she plays for the SEPA squad.

Joining Heath as a freshman defender is Johnson, who has helped Mepham High School to a 30-1-1 record over the past two seasons with back to back conference championships. Johnson, who plays her club lacrosse with the Long Island Yellow Jackets, was named all-conference as a sophomore.

Marino is a midfielder from local Freehold Township, where the Patriots have compiled 39-9 record in her three seasons. Marino earned First Team All-Shore Conference, All-District and All-Division honors as a sophomore and a junior. The three-year starter, who has amassed 163 goals and 70 assists so far in her career, was selected as a captain for her senior season. Marino plays her club lacrosse with the T3 Shore squad.

Like Marino, local product Alex McMahon plays club lacrosse on the T3 Shore team. McMahon helped lead Toms River North to a 12-2 record and Shore Conference A-South Title in 2009. In three seasons she has amassed 166 goals, including 67 as a freshman. She was also an all-county and all-state field hockey player for the Mariners.
