Holy Family Falls to Georgian Court
PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team suffered a 17-7 setback to visiting Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match on Thursday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Attack Gina Mansi (so. Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) paced Holy Family (3-4, 3-2 CACC) with a hat-trick, her third of the season. Attack Jennifer James (jr. Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) tallied a pair of goals. Midfielder Stephanie McNesby (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) recorded a three-point day with one goal and two assists. Midfielder Katherine Podlinksi (so. Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) found the back of the net once as well.
McNesby and defender Jessica Maloney (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) both recorded four ground balls each. Midfielder Samantha Cornely (so. Sewell, N.J./Camden Catholic) had a team-high four draw controls.
In goal, Melissa Jenkins (so. Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) stopped nine shots.
Mansi opened the scoring 4:57 into the game after receiving a pass from McNesby. Georgian Court (7-1, 4-0 CACC) answered back with nine consecutive goals, including hat-trick by attack Ryan McGrath. Podlinski broke the streak with an unassisted marker with 5:52 left in the half to make the score 9-2. Georgian Court led at the break, 10-2.
In the second half, the Tigers took advantage of their free-position shots to account for three of their five goals. Holy Family scored on two free-position shots separated by 29 seconds to cut the gap to 12-5. McNesby had the first one with 15:08 left, while Mansi completed her hat-trick with 14:39 on the clock. James scored on a free-position shot with 3:55 to play. She scored her second goal, with an assist from McNesby, just under two minutes later to make the score 15-7.
McGrath led the Lions with five goals. Midfielder Laura Housel had five points (three goals, two assists). Attack Christine Flaherty added a hat-trick. In goal, Christine Latteri made eight saves. Georgian Court out-shot Holy Family, 29-18.
Holy Family will play its final non-conference game of the season on Saturday, April 3 at Queens (N.Y.) at noon.
