Greensboro Takes One-Goal Win from Christopher Newport

Newport News, Va. -- Brad Gesser (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) scored with 17 seconds left in regulation as Greensboro College won at Christopher Newport, 12-11, on Saturday. Gesser score 3 goals and had one assist for GC, which improved to 8-3.

GC led 4-1 and and 6-3 before the Captains rallied. CNU tallied the last 4 goals of the first half and they led 7-6 at the break. Captain Jake Meyers scored with 7 seconds remaining in the third period to knot the game at 10-10.

The Pride's Randy Brooks (Greensboro, NC/Southeast Guilford) opened the final quarter scoring off an assist from Gesser with 12:23 left. Four minutes later, however, Bennen O'Brien tied the game for the sixth and final time at 11-11.

Matt Leach (Charlotte, NC/Canon) started the game for The Pride and played the first half. Fellow senior Alex Haskins (Ballston Spa, NY/Herkimer C.C.) played the second half, was credited with the victory and had 5 saves. CNU's Andy McGregor stooped 8 Pride shots.

Like Gesser, Jordan Drumheller scored 3 times and had one assist. Nick Patrone (Supply, NC/Apex) had 2 goals and one helper. Bryan Mercer (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) scored once and assisted twice.

The Pride next hosts Whittier College on April 8. Like GC and CNU, WC is an indedpendent in contention for an at large berth to the NCAA tournament.
