Colorado College Overwhelms Southwestern University

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The Colorado College men's lacrosse team set school records for goals in a game and largest margin of victory with a 27-0 win over Southwestern University in the first-ever Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game at Washburn Field.

The Tigers took over sole possession of first place in the SCAC with a 2-0 record and improved to 5-1 overall. The Pirates slipped to 1-1 in conference play and 1-9 overall.

Hunter Sprole scored the only goal CC would need 1:45 into the game. The Tigers led 9-0 at the end of the first period and 19-0 at halftime.

Moses Taylor led Colorado College with five goals and an assist. Sprole finished with four goals and set up two other scores, while Carson Christman had three goals and three assists.

James Mauk and Steve Rijo each found the net three times.

Kyle Bishop had a game-high 10 ground balls and won 14 of 15 faceoffs. On two occasions he won faceoffs, scooped up the ground ball and scored an unassisted goal.

Brendan Haas, Max Pluss and Jackson Nye made three saves while combining for CC's first shutout since a 22-0 victory over Hendrix College on April 27, 2008.

Chris O'Quain stopped 10 shots during 35:43 in goal for Southwestern, while Donnie Murray had eight saves in relief.

Shane Carney had a team-high four ground balls and won three faceoffs for the Pirates.

Colorado College makes the first of two consecutive trips to Ohio next weekend to face Kenyon College and The College of Wooster on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
