Randolph-Macon Holds on for One-Goal Win over Guilford

ASHLAND, Va. Randolph-Macon College held on for a 10-9 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's lacrosse win over visiting Guilford College Saturday. The Quakers (5-5, 2-3 ODAC) scored five of the game's final six goals, but the Yellow Jackets' (5-2, 3-1 ODAC) Kelly Cramer scored the eventual game-winner with 3:14 remaining.

Erin Clare Cassidy scored two of her game-high three goals in the first half as Randolph-Macon took a 7-3 edge into halftime. Cassidy's third goal of the game opened the second-half scoring and gave the hosts an 8-3 advantage.

After the teams traded goals, Guilford's Carrie Ernst scored consecutive tallies less than two minutes apart midway through the period. Ellie Merritt scored her third goal of the game with 8:40 left, which pulled Guilford to within 9-7 before Cramer's tally restored the Yellow Jackets' three-goal cushion.

Shelly Nogueira's free-position goal with 1:25 remaining made it a 10-8 game and Hannah Merrell scored 12 seconds later to make it a one-goal contest. Guilford won the ensuing draw, but turned the ball over and Randolph-Macon ran down the clock.

Cassidy's four points (3g, 1a) led all scorers. Kelly Egan scored three points on two goals and an assist. Cramer and Emily Kent also had two goals for the Yellow Jackets, who outshot Guilford, 33-19. Alex Flammia made five saves in goal.

Merritt and Ernst both scored three times to lead Guilford's offense. Nogueira finished with three points on two goals and an assist. Alyzza-May Callahan had 14 saves and five ground balls, both game highs, in goal.

Guilford visits the 16th-ranked University of Mary Washington Sunday (4/4) in a 2:00 p.m. nonconference game.
