Players of the Week, Western Region, April 5th

By Brett Manney

This week we feature a shut-down goalie in the desert, a Lone Star state attacker helping a rising Texas program, and a midfielder from the Pacific Northwest who dominated in his team's recent East Coast swing.

Kory Byas, Goalie, Tucson Catalina Foothills (AZ)

Even though Tucson Catalina dominated Glendale 16-7, a major reason why the game was never really in doubt for the Falcons was their stellar goalie. Byas turned away 16 shots, including many impressive ones in the first quarter, to help the Falcons capture a big win in Arizona.

Ian Seale, Attack, The Woodlands (TX)

Seale has been contributing all year for the squad from the Lone Star state and continued last week with six points on two goals and four assists in a 13-3 win against Lamar (TX). The Woodlands are still unbeaten in district play (5-0), and because of Seale's production the squad is on the rise in Texas.

Jon Wettack, midfield, Mercer Island (WA)

The Islanders had a successful spring break trip to New York, collecting wins against Mahopac (NY), Lakeland Panas (NY) and Guilderland (NY) to improve their record to a perfect 9-0. Over the duration of the trip Wettack, the point leader for the Islanders, collected 10 points on seven goals and three assists--in addition to many groundballs. The Islanders' next game is Friday against Issaquah, the defending state champion. For his efforts last week, Jon Wettack was named the Player of the Week.
