No. 18 Bowdoin Knocks off No. 6 Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine -- After giving up the first two goals of the game, Bowdoin College scored 10 of the next 12 goals on the way to a 14-7 victory over sixth-ranked Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference women's lacrosse on Wednesday night at Bill Alfond Field.

Bowdoin, ranked 18th nationally, improves to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference. The Mules fall to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Kate Pistel (Amherst, Mass.) and Amy Campbell (North Andover, Mass.) scored unassisted goals just 3:19 into the game for a quick 2-0 Colby lead.

Bowdoin fought back with three straight goals from Katie Herter (Topsfield, Mass.), Liz Clegg (Hudson, Ohio), and Katie Stewart (Chevy Chase, Md.) to take the lead with 21:56 left in the first half. The Mules' Lane McVey (Bronxville, N.Y.) tallied to make it 3-3 with 21:32 remaining, but Bowdoin went on another 3-0 scoring run to take the lead for good. Colby got as close as 6-4 only to see the Polar Bears run off four straight goals to end the half for a 10-4 margin at the break.

The Mules' Kathleen Kramer (Norwell, Mass.) scored 1:48 into the second half to cut the lead to 10-5. However, McKenna Teague (Cohasset, Mass.) scored two straight goals with 23:09 and 20:08 left to put Bowdoin up comfortably at 12-5.

Stewart and Teague both had three goals and teammate Katy Dissinger (Upper Bronxville, N.Y.) had two goals and one assist for Bowdoin. Carolyn Gorajek (Hightstown, N.J.) and Clegg also had two goals apiece. Stewart had four caused turnovers and Gorajek finished with three.

Campbell led Colby with three goals, while Kramer had one goal and one assist. Caroline Duke had five caused turnovers and two draw controls to lead Colby's defense.
