19th-Ranked Montclair State Rallies to Edge Marywood

Scranton, PA Montclair State took their only lead of Wednesday evening's non-conference game at Marywood University with 5:08 to play in the fourth quarter and held on to edge the Pacers, 8-7. The Red Hawks, ranked 19th in the latest USILA Coaches' Poll, improve to 7-3 on the season with the victory while Marywood has its four-game winning streak snapped and falls to 7-2.

Goals by Dustin Sturdevant (Warwick, NY) and Nick Parks (Emmaus, PA) gave Marywood a 2-0 lead at the 8:05 mark of the first quarter before Montclair got on the board on a Tyler Meth tally with 5:49 remaining in the period. The Pacers would respond with the next two goals to hold a 4-1 lead after the first quarter as George Downey IV (Palmyra, PA) scored with 3:09 to play and then set up Parks with 30 second left in the period.

Parks completed his hat-trick just 36 ticks into the second stanza with an unassisted goal, his team-leading 15th tally of the year to account for the only scoring of the period. Marywood held the 5-1 lead at halftime thanks to 15 saves by Jesse Habich (Broomall, PA) in the opening half.

The Red Hawks' Taylor Bonner would assist on the first two goals of the second half, as Douglas Kennedy and Robert Sinicola scored to cut the visitors' deficit to 5-3. Sturdevant netted his second goal of the evening off a feed from Parks to give Marywood a three-goal cushion with 6:39 remaining in the third quarter, but goals by Patrick Nann and Meth made the score 6-5 in favor of the hosts heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

Ryan Kloss leveled the score by finding the back of the net off a Sinicola assist with 10:41 to play, but Marywood would surge back in front just over a minute later when Downey netted his second goal off the game by scoring on Joe LaBella's (Allentown, PA) second helper of the contest. Montclair equalized with a 7:24 remaining when Thomas Ring scored unassisted, then took their first lead of the game with 5:08 to play when Sinicola set up Meth for his third goal of the game and the eventual game-winner.

Montclair State held a 46-24 advantage in shots for the game and a 39-33 edge in groundballs. The Red Hawks got three-point games from Meth (3 goals), Bonner (3 assists, and Sinicola (1 goal, 2 assists). Andrew Rosado made 10 saves in Montclair's cage to pick up the win.
