Gwynedd-Mercy Tops Marywood in CSAC Action

Gwynedd Valley, PA Gwynedd-Mercy College built a 10-6 halftime and held on for a 13-11 victory over Marywood University in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday evening. The Griffins leveled their record at 5-5 on the season with the win and improved to 4-0 in the CSAC while the Pacers fall to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Gwynedd-Mercy's Shannon Carabba opened the scoring with an unassisted goal 2:36 into the contest, but Marywood responded with four straight goals from four different players to hold a 4-1 lead at the 18:25 mark of the first half. Alexis Willey (Hummelstown, PA), Kelly Kryspin (Hopatcong, NJ), Sarah Collins (Brooklyn, NY) and Taylor McKeown (Nashua, NH) each tallied unassisted markers during the run.

The Griffins countered with a 7-0 run to hold an 8-4 lead with 7:48 left in the opening half before Allie Sodl (Coplay, PA) scored off a Meg Barbarino (Binghamton, NY) assist at the 6:27 mark, then set up McKeown less than a minute later to cut Marywood's deficit to 8-6. Gwynedd-Mercy would score twice in the final 11 seconds of the half to hold a four-goal lead at the intermission.

Gwynedd-Mercy's Kerri Boon and McKeown traded a pair of goals apiece in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and following McKeown's fourth tally of the game, Kryspin and Collins each scored to bring Marywood back within two goals at 12-10. Colleen Dellostretto scored with 9:14 to play to give the Griffins a three-goal cushion before Barbarino closed out the scoring for Marywood at the 8:07 mark as Gwynedd-Mercy clamped down to seal the victory

Carraba led all scorers with six points on five goals and one assist for the Griffins, who also got three goals apiece from Colleen Dellostretto and Kristi Mackin.

McKeown paced Marywood with four goals while Collins, Kryspin, Sodl, and Barbarino each turned in two-point performances. Carrie Glenn (Rifton, NY) tied for a game-high after collecting five groundballs on the evening.

Gwynedd-Mercy finished the game with a 39-30 advantage in shots for the game and a 25-21 edge in groundballs. The Griffins also picked up 13 draw controls to just five for Marywood.

Trisha Timony made 13 saves to pick up the win in the Griffins' cage while Katie Sullivan (Merrick, NY) finished with 14 stops in the loss.

Marywood will travel to Baltimore on Saturday to take on the College of Notre Dame in a CSAC contest slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
