Le Moyne Chomped by Gators in Last 2010 Home Game

Syracuse, N.Y. Caroline Chesterman scored four goals and dished out two assists to lead Florida to a 15-3 victory over the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Friday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.

Chesterman got the Gators on the board just 28 seconds into the game on a free-position shot. Brittany Dashiell scored off a free-position shot at the 25:57 mark to double the Florida lead. Kitty Cullen scored twice in a span of 3:05, the first of which came off a free-position shot, while the second was assisted by Chesterman.

The Gators completed their first-half scoring outburst on Chesterman's second goal of the half and a free-position goal by Ashley Bruns at the 4:01 mark. Senior Jackie Lundblad (Marietta, N.Y./Marcellus) scored off an assist from freshman Brenna Bauer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) with 21 seconds left in the stanza to get the Dolphins within 6-1 at the intermission.

Junior Mia Valletta (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) scored off a free-position shot 4:23 into the second half to pull Le Moyne with four goals. The Gators then rattled off nine straight goals to put the game away. Chesterman tallied the first two off assists from Bruns. Janine Hillier then finished off a pass from Chesterman to put Florida up 9-2.

Cullen scored twice in a stretch of five minutes around a goal from Caroline Cochran to make the score 12-2 with 12:21 left in the game. Dashiell and Hillier followed with their second goals of the contest before Cori Gray capped the run with an unassisted tally. Freshman Gabrielle Kamide (Deferiet, N.Y./Carthage) closed out the scoring in the game with 13 seconds left to deliver the final score.

Sophomore Kelly Fucillo (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) made 16 saves in the setback for the Dolphins, while Cara Canington made seven saves in 52:12 between the pipes and Mikey Meagher stopped one shot in 7:48 of action.

Le Moyne (7-4), which had its seven-game win streak snapped, honored its four-member senior class (Lundblad, Kari DeWick (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan), Caitlin Byrne (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill), April Stec (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia)) prior to the game for their contributions to the program. The Dolphins return to action at Vermont on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

Syracuse, N.Y.-Caroline Chesterman (South Nyack, N.Y.) and Kitty Cullen (Rockville, Md.) scored four goals apiece and the Florida lacrosse team beat Le Moyne 15-3 on Friday in Syracuse. The defense was outstanding again, limiting the Dolphins to just 11 shots on goal and recording eight saves.

Florida (9-4, 1-2 ALC) dominated from the opening draw, as Chesterman scored her first goal just 28 seconds into the game on a free position shot. Brittany Dashiell (Bel Air, Md.) also scored on a free position, then Cullen scored two in a row and the Gators led 4-0 with 16:29 left in the first half.

Chesterman scored again and Ashley Bruns (Ellicott City, Md.) scored at the 4:01 mark to build a 6-0 lead before Jackie Lundblad got Le Moyne on the board with 21 seconds left in the half.

The Dophins struck first after the break, as Mia Valletta scored on a free position shot, but Florida answered with nine straight goals to put the game away.

Chesterman scored twice more on assists from Bruns, and then Janine Hillier (Farmingdale, N.Y.) finished a pass from Chesterman to put UF up 9-2. Two more goals by Cullen and a goal from Caroline Cochran (Annapolis, Md.) gave the Gators a 10-goal lead with 12:21 to play.

Dashiell and Hillier each scored their second goal of the game and Cori Gray (White Hall, Md.) capped the scoring for UF with just over three minutes left in regulation. Kamide Gabrielle scored one more for Le Moyne with 13 seconds on the clock for the final margin of 15-3.
