Castleton Downs Husson in NAC Action

Bangor, ME - Michael Martinez (Barrington, IL) scored four goals and Castleton built a 13-2 lead after three quarters before settling in for a 13-7 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's lacrosse win over Husson University Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.

Samuel Bailey (Harftord, VT) added two goals and four assists for Castleton (4-5, 2-1 NAC), while Craig MacDerment (Clifton Park, NY) chipped in two goals and one assist. Jake Rick (Rochester, NY) and James Bascom (Barre, VT) each tallied one goal and one assist to round out the multiple point scorers. Korey Counos (St. Albans, VT), Daniel Luzzi (Oakland, NJ) and Michael DelDotto (Reading, MA) finished off the Spartan scoring with one goal each.

Ben Landry (Lewiston, ME) led Husson (3-6, 3-1 NAC) with two goals and one assist, while Anthony Diaz (Brunswick, ME) and Calvin Dyke (Troy, ME) each had a pair of markers. Chris Pelletier rounded out the Eagle scoring attack with a single goal.

Landry put the Eagles on the board first with 9:28 remaining in the first period, but Castleton answered with a seven-goal surge that lapsed into the second period and never looked back. Martinez and MacDerment each scored twice during the rally, with the duo hooking up for the final goal of the first period with 2:53 remaining.

After Landry cut the lead to 7-2, Castleton went on a 6-0 run to ice the game heading into the fourth period. The Eagles tacked on five in the final stanza for the final 13-7 margin.

David Deghetto (Clifton, NJ) was outstanding in net for Castleton, stopping 15 shots before being lifted for the final period.

Castleton is back in action tomorrow when the Spartans travel to Thomas College for a 12:00 p.m. NAC face-off.
