Maritime Drops Skyline Tilt to Montclair State

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 10, 2010) The Maritime women's lacrosse team lost its home conference-matchup to Montclair State, 18-3, Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field. The defeat drops the Privateers record to 1-7 overall (0-3 Skyline), while the Red Hawks improve to 7-3 on the season (5-0 Skyline).

Maritime scored three second-half goals in the loss, as sophomore tri-captain Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y.) and classmate Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y.) both recorded back-to-back tallies within four minutes of each other. Senior Heather Christiansen (Baldwin, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Privateers when she found the back of the net for the final goal of the contest with 3:32 remaining.

In net for Maritime, senior tri-captain Meagan Golden (Point Pleasant, N.J.) recorded five saves in the losing effort. Freshman Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J.) was the squad's leader with three draw controls, while Brady led the Privateers with three ground balls on the day.

For Montclair State, senior Morgan MacPhee scored a game-high four goals, while sophomore Jessica Curran was the point-leader on the day with five one goal and four assists. Freshman goalie Tiffani Henderson played a perfect first half to earn the victory, making one save. She was replaced in the second by junior Tracy Manella.

The Privateers return to action on Wednesday, April 14, when they travel to Union, N.J. to take on Skyline-opponent Kean. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the Cougars' Alumni Stadium.
