Goucher Rolls by Washington & Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Nine different Gophers scored goals as Goucher (Md.) rolled to a 14-5 men's lacrosse victory over Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.

The Gophers (8-3) netted the first five goals of the match to build an early advantage. Matt Lynch scored two of the goals and assisted on another during the early run.

W&J (5-5) got on the scoreboard 34 seconds into the second quarter as sophomore defender Austin Cahill (Bridgewater, N.J./Immaculata) fired in his second goal of the season. Goucher responded with back-to-back goals 31 seconds apart, but W&J sophomore attacker Mark Ringeling (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) answered at the 4:48 mark to bring W&J to within 7-2 at halftime.

The Gophers put the game away with the first four goals of the third quarter. Goucher finished the game with a 53-19 edge in shots and a 60-26 advantage in ground balls. Goucher also won 15 of 21 faceoffs, all of which were taken by Nick LaBriccisosa.

Lynch finished with three goals and two assists to lead the Gopher offense, while Rory Averett contributed two goals and one assist. Mike Russo and Chris Argonish added two-goal efforts. Chris Stricklin played the first 45 minutes in goal and made two saves.

The Presidents had four different goal scorers led by Ringeling's two tallies. Sophomore attacker Andrew Wallick (Canton, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) and freshman attacker Joseph Eck (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) also added goals. Eck and freshman midfielder Dylan Haas (Damascus, Md./Poolesville) notched assists.

Freshman goalie Ran Kirby (Cleveland, Ohio/University School) kept the Presidents in the game by making 13 saves, including 12 in the first half.

W&J looks to get back on the winning track next Saturday when hosting Mount Saint Joseph at 1:00 pm.
