Mount Saint Vincent Throttles Sage

Albany, N.Y. -- The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team collected its second league win of the season on Saturday afternoon with a 19-4 road win at Sage. Four Dolphins scored four goals in the game with Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) tallying seven points on four goals and three assists.

The Dolphins opened the game up early on Saturday, scoring the first eight goals of the game on their way to a commanding 12-1 lead at halftime. Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Kelly Martin (Stony Point, N.Y.) led the offensive attack in the half with three goals apiece.

Mount Saint Vincent opened the second half much the same way in closed the first with three straight goals over the first eight minutes of the period. Tucci, Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Julia Caro (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) all scored over that stretch for the Mount.

Tucci netted four goals in a game for the second straight contest on Saturday and also added a groundball and a draw control. Perla finished the day with a season-high four tallies against the Gators and also added an assist and five draw controls. She was a perfect 2 for 2 on free-position shots.

Mitchell continued her strong junior campaign against Sage with her seven point effort. She also scooped a groundball and won a draw control. Martin and Kim Freaso (Setauket, N.Y.) rounded out a quintet with multiple points for the Mount. Freaso scored a pair of goals, while Martin tallied three times and added an assist.

Senior Jackie Horn (Setauket, N.Y.) earned the win in the cage for the Dolphins after making seven saves. She stopped five Sage shots in the first half and also added a groundball for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins held the edge in every team statistical category on Saturday. The Mount finished with 40 shots to 16 for Sage and picked up 11 groundballs to seven for the Gators. The Dolphins were successful on 15 of their 17 clearing attempts and won 15 of the 24 draw controls in the game.

The win improves Mount Saint Vincent to 2-4 overall on the season and evens its league record at 2-2. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Wednesday evening when they host Mount Saint Mary. The Skyline Conference game will be played at Manhattan College's Gaelic Park and will get underway at 5:00 p.m.
