No. 2 Gettysburg Struggles Past Ursinus

GETTYSBURG, Pa. Trailing second-ranked Gettysburg 9-2 midway through the second quarter, Ursinus mounted a furious comeback but fell just short in a 13-11 loss to the Bullets on Saturday in Centennial Conference men's lacrosse play.

Trailing 9-2 with 7:53 left, Ursinus (8-3, 3-3 Centennial) scored four straight goals to pull with three at 9-6 on a goal by senior midfielder Eric Farris (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottsgrove) with 3:29 left in the second quarter. Farris scored three goals in that quarter alone.

With Gettysburg (12-1, 6-0 Centennial) leading 10-6 at intermission, the Bears pulled to within two at 10-8 as sophomore attack David Kraus (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and sophomore midfielder Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast, Fla./Mantanzas) scored goals.

Both teams would trade goals the rest of the way, with Ursinus never getting closer than two the rest of the way.

For Ursinus, Ocampo, Farris and Kraus all finished with three goals, with senior midfielder Tom Walsh (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) and junior midfielder Pat Gillen (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) each adding a goal.

Walsh added in two assists, while Ocampo and junior long stick midfielder Ernie Constantine (Bethpage, N.Y./St. Dominic) each had an assist. Constantine had two caused turnovers.

Sophomore midfielder Ryan Reuther (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) had nine groundballs and went 15 for 18 on faceoffs. The Bears as a team went 16 for 28 on faceoffs on the day.

Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Columbini (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick-Hudson) had six saves in the last three periods. Freshman goalkeeper T.J. Magnani (Bear, Del./Saint Mark's) had two saves in the first period.
